Player Tendencies

  • DPT (Dominant Play Type) - The play type from which a player scores the highest percentage of their total points.

  • DPT2 (Secondary Play Type) - The second-most frequent scoring play type.

  • DSZ (Dominant Shot Zone) - The court zone where a player scores the highest percentage of their total points.

  • DSZ2 (Secondary Shot Zone) - The second-most frequent scoring court zone.

  • DAZ (Dominant Assist Zone) - The court zone where a player delivers the most assists.

  • DAZ2 (Secondary Assist Zone) - The second-most frequent assist zone.

  • C&S - Catch and Shoot

  • Pull Up - Pull-up jumper (off the dribble)

  • PITP - Points in the Paint

Core Stats

  • PTS - Points

  • AST - Assists

  • REB - Rebounds

  • 3PM / 3PT - Three-Pointers Made

  • 3PA - Three-Point Attempts

  • FG - Field Goals Made

  • FGA - Field Goals Attempted

  • FG% - Field Goal Percentage

Hitting - Core Stats

  • H - Hits

  • HR - Home Runs

  • R - Runs Scored

  • RBI - Runs Batted In

  • TB - Total Bases

  • 2B - Doubles

  • 3B - Triples

  • XBH - Extra Base Hits (doubles + triples + home runs)

  • SB - Stolen Bases

  • BB - Walks (Bases on Balls)

  • K - Strikeouts (batter)

  • AB - At Bats

  • PA - Plate Appearances

  • RISP - Runners In Scoring Position (runner on 2nd or 3rd)

  • Hits RISP / AB RISP - A batter's hits and at-bats when runners are in scoring position

Hitting - Rate & Advanced Stats

  • BA - Batting Average

  • OBP - On-Base Percentage

  • SLG - Slugging Percentage

  • OPS - On-Base Plus Slugging (OBP + SLG)

  • wOBA - Weighted On-Base Average (all outcomes weighted by run value)

  • ISO - Isolated Power (SLG minus BA; raw extra-base power)

  • BABIP - Batting Average on Balls In Play

  • K% - Strikeout rate

  • BB% - Walk rate

  • Contact % - Percentage of swings that make contact

  • HR Rate - Home runs per plate appearance

  • HR/FB% - Home run rate on fly balls

  • 2B Rate / XBH Rate - Doubles (or extra-base hits) per plate appearance

Pitching - Core Stats

  • K - Strikeouts (pitcher)

  • IP - Innings Pitched

  • Outs - Outs Recorded (3 outs = 1 inning)

  • ER - Earned Runs

  • Hits Allowed - Hits given up

  • BB Allowed - Walks given up

  • HR Allowed - Home runs given up

  • Pitch Count - Total pitches thrown

  • Batters Faced - Number of batters the pitcher faced

  • P/IP - Pitches per Inning Pitched

Pitching - Rate & Advanced Stats

  • ERA - Earned Run Average (per 9 IP)

  • WHIP - Walks + Hits per Inning Pitched

  • K/9 / H/9 / HR/9 - Strikeouts / Hits / Home Runs per 9 innings

  • K-BB% - Strikeout rate minus walk rate

  • SwStr% - Swinging Strike Percentage

  • CSW% - Called + Swinging Strike Percentage

  • O-Swing% - Chase rate (swings on pitches out of the zone)

  • Zone% - Percentage of pitches thrown in the strike zone

  • F-Strike% - First-pitch strike rate

  • LOB% - Left On Base Percentage (runners stranded)

  • BA Allowed / BABIP Allowed - Batting average / BABIP against the pitcher

Batted Ball (Both Sides)

  • GB% - Ground Ball rate

  • LD% - Line Drive rate

  • FB% - Fly Ball rate

  • GB% / LD% / FB% Allowed - Same rates for pitchers (what batters hit against them)

Combined Markets

  • H+R+RBI - Hits + Runs + RBIs (batter combined market)

Handedness Splits

MLB performance is often split by pitcher/batter handedness. PropsMadness surfaces both sides:

  • RHP / LHP - Right-Handed / Left-Handed Pitcher

  • RHB / LHB - Right-Handed / Left-Handed Batter

  • vs RHP / vs LHP - A batter's stats against right- or left-handed pitching (e.g., BA vs LHP, ISO vs RHP)

  • vs RHB / vs LHB - A pitcher's stats against right- or left-handed batters (e.g., K% vs RHB)

Opponent & Matchup Metrics

Facing a pitcher (batter props): Opp SP stats show how the opposing starting pitcher ranks league-wide, as a percentile (0–100, higher = tougher matchup for opponents).

  • Opp SP BA / OBP / wOBA / ISO / BABIP Pctl - Where the starting pitcher ranks in each category

  • Opp SP K% / BB% / HR/9 / HR/FB% Pctl - Strikeout, walk, and home-run-suppression percentiles

  • Opp SP GB% / FB% / Contact% / LOB% Pctl - Batted-ball and stranding percentiles

  • Each of the above is also split vs RHB / vs LHB

Facing a lineup (pitcher props): Opp Lineup stats show how the opposing team's hitters perform overall.

  • Opp K% / Whiff% / BB% Allowed - How often the lineup strikes out, whiffs, or walks

  • Opp BA / OBP / OPS / ISO / BABIP Allowed - Lineup production allowed

  • Opp Pitches/PA Allowed - How many pitches the lineup sees per plate appearance

  • Each is also split vs RHP / vs LHP

MLB-Specific Features

  • Park & Weather Report - Ballpark run/HR factors plus game-day weather (temp, wind, humidity) that influence scoring environment

  • Opposing Lineup - Full opposing lineup displayed when viewing pitcher props, with each hitter's splits vs the pitcher's handedness

  • Pitch Arsenal - The starting pitcher's pitch mix (fastball, slider, curveball, etc.) with usage % and results

Opponent Metrics

  • Opp D-Rank - How well a team defends overall. Lower rank = better defense.

  • Opp Allowed - How much the opposing team allows for a specific stat. Lower = less allowed (tougher matchup).

  • Opp D-Rank vs Position - How the opponent defends against the player's specific position for the selected stat.

  • Opp DefRtg - Opponent Defensive Rating (points allowed per 100 possessions, NBA/WNBA).

  • Opp Pace - Opponent's pace of play.

  • Opp [Stat] Allowed - How much of a specific stat the opponent gives up (e.g., Opp Pass Yds Allowed, Opp Rebounds Allowed).

  • Opp D-Rank vs DPT - How the opponent defends against the player's dominant play type.

  • Opp D-Rank vs DSZ - How the opponent defends the player's dominant shot zone.

  • Opp Press Rate - Opponent's quarterback pressure rate (NFL).

  • Opp Sack Rate - Opponent's sack rate (NFL).

  • Opp RZ TD Allowed - Red zone touchdowns allowed by the opponent (NFL).

Important: In playoffs, worst defense ranks 16th (number of playoff teams). In regular season, worst ranks 30th (NBA) or 32nd (NFL). Keep this in mind when comparing rankings across seasons.

Game Context & Splits

  • H2H - Head-to-Head (past matchups against the same opponent)

  • B2B - Back-to-Back (second game in two consecutive days, NBA/WNBA)

  • Home / Away - Performance split by game location

  • Won By / Lost By - Filter games by margin of victory or defeat

  • Playoff / Regular Season - Filter by season type

Odds & Lines

  • Hit Rate - Percentage of games where the player went over the line shown on the graph.

  • Closing Line - The final line offered by a sportsbook before the game starts. PropsMadness uses the sharpest available book (currently FanDuel for NBA).

  • Line - The number set by a sportsbook for a player prop (e.g., 24.5 points).

  • Over / Under - Betting on whether the player will go above or below the line.

  • Juice - The odds attached to a line (e.g., -110, -113). Indicates the price you pay to bet.

  • AVG DIFF - Average difference between the player's actual result and the line across games shown.

  • AVG DIFF % - Same as above, expressed as a percentage.

  • PTS DIFF % - Percentage difference between the closing line and actual result for a single game.

Graph & Dashboard

  • Blue Line - The advanced filter overlay on the graph, tracking a selected metric (like USG% or Minutes) across every game.

  • Graph AVG - The average for games currently shown on the graph based on your applied filters.

  • Season AVG - The full-season average for a stat, regardless of filters.

  • Diffs - The difference between the graph average and the filtered-out games average. Shows how your filters change the picture.
